Overview
Microsoft® Windows® SharePoint® Services Service Pack 1 (SP1) contains significant security enhancements, in addition to stability and performance improvements.
SP1 also includes stability improvements developed as a result of user input from the Microsoft Online Crash Analysis in Windows SharePoint Services and from Microsoft Product Support feedback.

Instructions
It is advised that you perform a full backup of your Windows SharePoint Services environment prior to applying a Service Pack. You may consult the Windows SharePoint Services Administrator's Guide for the exact steps required to accomplish this task.
Installation instructions
If you have Windows SharePoint Services installed, do one of the following:
- Use Windows Update (recommended). Windows Update scans your computer and provides you with a tailored selection of updates that apply only to the items on your computer.
- Install Windows SharePoint Services Service Pack 1. To do this, follow these steps:
- Download the .exe file by using the button at the top of the page, and then save the file to your hard disk drive.
- It is recommended that you quit any programs you are running.
- In Windows Explorer, double-click the .exe file that you saved to your hard disk drive, and follow the instructions on the screen.
Note: You should update all Web servers in a Web farm at the same time to Windows SharePoint Services Service Pack 1. For more information, see the Microsoft Knowledge Base article (875358):You must update all the Web servers in a Web farm that is running Windows SharePoint Services
