Overview
Microsoft® SharePoint® Portal Server 2003 Service Pack 1 (SP1) contains significant security enhancements, in addition to stability and performance improvements.
SP1 includes stability improvements developed as a result of user input from the Microsoft Online Crash Analysis in Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003 and from Microsoft Product Support feedback.

Instructions
It is advised that you perform a full backup of your SharePoint Portal 2003 environment prior to applying a Service Pack. You may consult the Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003 Administrator's Guide for the exact steps required to accomplish this task.
Installation instructions
If you have Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003 installed follow these steps:
- Download the .exe file by using the button at the top of the page, and then save the file to your hard disk drive.
- It is recommended that you quit any programs you are running.
- In Windows Explorer, double-click the .exe file that you saved to your hard disk drive, and follow the instructions on the screen.
Note: You should update all Web servers in a Web farm at the same time to SharePoint Portal Server 2003 Service Pack 1. For more information, see the Microsoft Knowledge Base article (875371):You must update all the Web servers in a Web farm that is running SharePoint Portal Server 2003
