Using iWay adapters for BizTalk to enable SharePoint integration#

A while ago we’ve been doing a Proof of Concept for getting PeopleSoft data into SharePoint and back. In our case, we needed to get the data out of and old version of PeopleSoft, which was quite a challange. We used an iWay adapter to do that and that went quite well.

Today, Microsoft announced that they bought eight iWay application adapters for BizTalk. The adapters Microsoft purchased will help BizTalk Server customers connect more easily to third-party applications from Amdocs, JD Edwards, Oracle Corp., PeopleSoft, Siebel Systems Inc. and TIBCO Software Inc. iWay customers that have purchased licenses for the .NET-based adapters will receive a license for the corresponding Microsoft adapter with the purchase of Software Assurance.

Some information about integration with SharePoint using Biztalk and iWay on MSDN can be found here.

BizTalk 2006 - Windows SharePoint Services adapter#

I made posting about the Biztalk adapter for Sharepoint (v2) a while ago, but got a tip from Adrian Hanza about a detailed comparision of the BizTalk 2006 native WSS Adapter and GotDotNet v2 adapter which is certainly worth reading.

New in Commerce 2006#

Via Patrick:

"Interested in the overall story on the forthcoming Microsoft Commerce Server 2006, I attended a session here at TechEd A'Dam where I hoped to have my first glimpse on the product itself. But unfortunately, the presentation was all slides-based with a good overview of the new features of it. Things I will remember are:

  • CS has been recreated exclusively on top of the .NET 2.0 framework. No more COM support! (although there is compatibility with your COM components in the CS pipeline)
  • And yes, user controls and Web parts now for developers (e.g. shopping basket control, ...)
  • There will be a complete set of new business user tools. Yep, they have finally replaced the BizDesk with a number of smart client Windows applications.
  • There seems to be good integration (two-way) between Commerce Server 2006 and BizTalk 2006 with some new BizTalk adapters.
  • Lots of integration also with SQL Server Reporting Services.
  • The Catalog Manager looks very cool with some extra functionalities and we have a new Inventory Manager and Marketing Manager.
  • There will be a new Starter Site for VS.NET 2005.
  • And of course, we can access the content now with Web services.

CS2006 will be coming Q1 CY2006. There will be more after Longhorn Server."

BizTalk Adapter for SharePoint Version 2#

Via Jan Tielens:

This is good news! There is a new version of the BizTalk Adapter for SharePoint released on the GotDotNet Workspace. It seems that the adapter was launched at TechEd USA, you can view the web cast online over here (including a demo of the BizTalk 2006 Adapter). Here is my little summary:

Features of V2:

  • Side by side install with V1 (no upgrade scenario)
  • Exposes properties in Context (like originating folder etc.)
  • Security Credentials per Endpoint (also accessible through context properties!)
  • Binary file support (!)

BizTalk 2006 WSS Adapter:

  • Includes all features of V2
  • Integrated setup, configuration, and deployment experience
  • Support of Form library, View, and List
  • Integrated Office InfoPath experience
